Poly, 80 Langton St, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA

We're excited to offer a new talk series entitled "Rust in AI" where we hear from speakers, builders, and champions of the Rust community that are building advanced intelligence. At this event, we will be joined by keynote speaker Dzmitry Malyshau, one of the main contributors to wgpu, a cornerstone of the WebGPU ecosystem that powers Firefox's official implementation. Very soon, many AI models will be able to run natively in the browser thanks to Dzmitry's and many, many others' relentless hard work. Additionally, we are joined by Nick Khami and Darryl Barnhart, both passionate entrepreneurs that have built their products on a pure Rust foundation. Dinner and refreshments provided, first come first serve (event is capped at 120 guests). Agenda 6:30-7 Doors Open, refreshments provided (catered dinner, snacks, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages) 7-7:15 Opening remarks by Abhay, CEO of Poly 7:15-7:45 Nick Khami on optimizing inference and search speed with Rust and GPU acceleration 7:45 - 8:15 Darryl Barnhart on creating a production codebase that can work in challenging computing environments and across compilation targets 8:15-8:45 Dzmitry Malyshau on lessons learned from wgpu and introducing Blade Why "Rust in AI"? Rust has shown itself to be a surprisingly versatile language that can work in both embedded platforms, web platforms, and the cloud. However, there is still a widely noted gap in Rust's ergonomics in higher level tasks, especially interfacing with GPUs and training neural networks. Nonetheless, the promise of memory safe, fast computing that leverages the full potential of available hardware still compels us to try new approaches for Rust-centric systems. "Rust in AI" is an attempt to gather the community for more knowledge sharing to help build better, faster, smarter things Speakers Dzmitry Malyshau: Prior lead developer of wgpu, the foundation behind WebGPU on Firefox and one of the cornerstones of cross-platform GPU acceleration. Currently working on Blade, a Rust-powered graphics library emphasizing simplicity and speed Darryl Barnhart: Chief Scientist of Zeromatter, a company building a Rust based platform for development, testing and training of robotics and autonomy. Nick Khami: CEO of Trieve, a modern search API for RAG applications About Poly & Poly HQ: Poly is building the world's first intelligent file browser, a fully AI-native consumer application that lets you store, browse, search, and ask questions about your files, helping you build a "search engine for your own life". The Poly HQ is the main office of Poly and contains a 4000sqft brick-and-timber central venue with space for 100+ guests, as well as a 150" projector and space to mingle away from the talks. Please note that this space is not ADA accessible, as you must climb a staircase in order to reach the second floor. We apologize for any inconvenience.
